IRDye 650 DBCO (dibenzocyclooctyne group) enables bioorthogonal chemistry to be performed without the need for heavy metal catalysts. IRDye 650 DBCO provides the functionality for preferential labeling of molecules that contain azide groups (-N3) with IRDye 650. Within physiologically relevant temperature and pH ranges, the reactive group of the IRDye 650 DBCO is inert toward naturally occurring nucleophiles such as amines and hydroxyls. Reaction of the DBCO group with the azide group is significantly faster than with the sulfhydryl group (-SH, thiol).
