Purpose Acyclovir is a synthetic nucleoside analogue active against herpesviruses. It is a guanosine analogue antiviral drug. Aciclovir differs from previous nucleoside analogues in that it contains only a partial nucleoside structure: the sugar ring is replaced by an open-chain structure.
