Thiostrepton is a large cyclic antibiotic commonly used in topical antibiotic ointments. It inhibits bacterial protein synthesis. It blocks translation by interfering with elongation factors (EF) involved in ribosomal GTPase activity. Antitumor agent, induces cell cycle arrest and apoptosis in breast cancer cells via downregulation of FOXM1 expression.
